Meet YHLO PIFI: Smarter Islet Function Assessment
The 2026 Islet Metabolism Forum officially kicked off in Nanjing on April 10.
The forum focused on advanced and hot topics such as islet metabolism, immune regulation, and methods for assessing islet function. This created a high-level academic platform that bridges basic research breakthroughs with clinical translational applications in islet metabolic diseases.

The forum was hosted by Professor Yang Tao from the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University. Representatives from YHLO and several distinguished experts in endocrinology and metabolism attended the event. Together, they witnessed the upgraded release of a collaborative achievement between YHLO and academic institutions. This achievement is the "Standardized Pancreatic Islet Function Index (PIFI) Digital Intelligence Platform", a big data-driven intelligent computing model designed to assess islet function.
Following its debut at the Islet Metabolism Forum in 2025, this upgraded version, based on clinical practice data from over 10,000 Chinese cases, has achieved a double leap in algorithmic accuracy and clinical adaptability. This upgrade marks a significant deepening and practical advancement in moving islet function assessment from experience-based judgment toward scientifically quantified and intelligently stratified evaluation.

The launch of the PIFI Digital Intelligence Platform directly addresses the core challenges in the management of metabolic diseases, especially diabetes, in China today. For a long time, islet function, as a core evaluation indicator for metabolic diseases, has lacked a standardized, quantifiable, and easily disseminable assessment system in clinical practice.
To meet this challenge, YHLO, in collaboration with multiple clinical and research teams, officially launched the PIFI Digital Intelligence Platform. The platform aims to promote standardization and precision in diagnostic and treatment decisions, improve hospital operational efficiency, and help build a systematic, full-cycle chronic disease management system. This enables a true shift from passive intervention to proactive management.
The PIFI tackles clinical challenges with a three systemic transformation:
For clinical practice, big data modeling and population stratification make islet function quantifiable, classifiable, and traceable. This enhances the standardization, precision, and foresight of diagnosis and treatment.
For hospitals, the assessment capability integrates deeply with hospital information systems and is embedded into clinical workflows. It serves physicians, improves efficiency and collaboration, and does not become an additional burden.
For the healthcare system, physician-patient collaboration and data accumulation help build a full-cycle management system covering screening, diagnosis, intervention, and follow-up. This upgrades metabolic disease management from fragmented to systematic, with diabetes as a key example.

The PIFI Digital Intelligence Platform has moved from a big data model in the laboratory to an assessment report at the clinical bedside. Its official launch is not only a milestone for YHLO on the path of data-driven chronic disease management, but also a key practice in responding to the national health-centered strategy and strengthening primary healthcare.
In the future, YHLO will continue to uphold open collaboration and work with clinical experts to refine assessment standards for the Chinese population. It will continuously promote the translation of research achievements into clinical practice. The goal is to build a "China Solution" with international influence in the field of metabolic diseases, contributing Chinese wisdom to improving the diagnosis and treatment of metabolic diseases in China and around the world.
