The Italy newspaper reported on 2 April 2020 that YHLO’s iFlash 1800 chemiluminescence analyzer has been installed at Rovereto laboratory and its SARS-CoV-2 CLIA kits are being used synchronously to detect a considerable number of samples suspected of being infected with 2019-nCoV.

Italy remains one of the worst-hit countries. After about two-month fighting, the country is nearing a plateau in its coronavirus infection rate and should start to see a decline in new cases. The isolation and containment measures are working, while effective diagnose weapons are also very important at any time.

"From next week, Trentino Province will have an extra resource to identify the infection of COVID-19. Azienda Provinciale per i Servizi Sanitari (APSS) is one of the first Italian hospitals to install a new diagnostic system, which allows them to identify the infection of SARS-CoV-2 (2019-nCoV) through a blood sample from the patient.

At the beginning, the test will be used to keep patients and operators in a safe condition.  The initial people who will be tested are those who were in close contact with affected patients routinely, and later more and more people will be tested.

The new equipment has been installed in Clinical Pathology Laboratory of Rovereto and worked at full capacity in a continuous cycle, which will give chemiluminescence immunoassay results for thousands of samples. Currently the technicians are working on the calibration of machine and connection to the laboratory's information systems so that it will be able to manage the high number of analysis required.

Considering the lack of scientific knowledge relating to COVID-19, it will be also important for APSS to have connection and communication with professionals from other provinces of Italy who are using this method."
